Java, almost everyone in IT has an opinion about it. Java has had (and probably will continue to have) a lot of security issues. Many software packages depend on it so there are enough situations where you have to install it.
One major (new) annoyance is that Oracle has been including third party software (for example the Ask search bar) to the installer. If you don’t pay attention and untick the relevant boxes you will be installing this third party software.
Besides paying attention during the setup, which you should always do, there are ways around this. There is an article on the Java site specifying how to disable these “third party sponsor offers”. There are two ways mentioned, one way is to enable the “supress sponsor offers” option in the Java Control panel, the second way is to start the installer with SPONSORS=0.
